
A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, sending passengers running for safety in the frigid waters. The Hudson River plane crash involves a jet that had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport. It was enroute to Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday when the crash occured and the pilot says it was due to a "double bird strike" which made him want to make an emergency landing, but the plane didn't make it. US Airways flight 1549 was reportedly in the air for less than a few minutes before it crashed in the Hudson river, around 3:30pm EST. The maximum altitude was 3200 feet before the aircraft began a descent into the water. There are currently no reports of fatalities, and everyone appears to be OK. The U.S. Coast Guard and other units are responding, and ferries are dropping life jackets, inflatable rescue boats into the water.
