You can have a great wallpaper, but if you have icon border shadows displaying, it can spoil the whole look of the desktop. These rectangular icon border shadows form a block around the text of each icon, thus blocking a view of the wallpaper. But don't fear -- there's an easy way to remove the unappealing shadows and make the icon border transparent. First, right click on an empty area of the desktop, go to 'Arrange Icons' and disable 'Lock Web Items on Desktop' if you have it checked. The next step is to go to the 'Control Panel', select 'System', go to the 'Advanced' tab and under 'Performance' click 'Settings'. There look for the 'Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop', and change it by clicking the checkbox. Hit 'Apply', 'OK' and you're done. Your wallpaper will now seamlessly show through the icon text!
