The Costa Rica earthquake, that measured 6.1 on the Richter scale rocked the country but its effects were also felt in surrounding regions on Thursday afternoon. Costa Rica's earthquake shook the capital city of San Jose Thursday afternoon, sending frightened residents running into the streets. The earthquake was felt in the Central, Northern and Atlantic regions of the country. There has been no report of casualties yet, but damages to building are apparent with broken windows, fallen ceiling panels and cracked walls. Cell phone communications and power supply in quite a few communities are reported to be coming back gradually. So far Costa Rica has felt at least five strong aftershocks from the earthquake which hit on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 1:21:36 PM at its epicenter.
