In a short amount of time, Antivirus 2009 has become one of the most common spyware programs out there. If you have this program and have received notifications of viruses from it, be warned that these warnings are most likely NOT true. Antivirus 2009 is nothing more than fake antivirus software made to scare users into purchasing a bogus virus cleaner to remove the non-existent virus. The easiest way to remove any fake antivirus software is by using Ad-Aware. Antivirus 2009 can also be removed manually (be sure to back up any important files first) by restarting WIndows in Safe mode and disable it from the items loaded on startup. This can also be done by editing the registry, but only do this if you have a backup and are experienced enough as it is a powerful tool. Click Start, Run. Type regedit to start the Registry Editor. Browse to the Hkey_Local_Machine\Software folder from the My Computer folder and delete any suspicious Registry entries (such as WinAntiVirus). This will prevent the Antivirus 2009 software from loading on startup any longer.
