Description: TweakPrefetch is a utility to tweak the Prefetch and Superfetch settings in newer versions of Windows. For the uninitiated, Windows XP and Vista contain a Prefetch function meant to reduce application startup time. Prefetching works by Windows creating a sort of index of application files to load into memory. That way, the next time the application is run, Windows can check the previously created 'index' and thus give a faster load time. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, Prefetch adds Superfetch by which Vista can preload parts of frequently loaded applications into memory at Windows startup or at a later time. Both are good functions to have enabled for the majority of users, however, Superfetch can sometimes lead to abnormal hard disk activity or random in-game framerate drops. TweakPrefetch is a utility to change how these functions operate and set separate parameters for Prefetch and Superfetch. You can completely disable Superfetch, or choose to only allow it to apply it certain instances. This utility definitely isn't for everyone but if you want to be able to tweak your Prefetch settings easily to see if you can get faster run time, give TweakPrefetch a try. This version adds keyboard shortcuts and fixes a minor bug.
